Messias White Port 1963 (Lacryma Christi)
€ 195,00
Porto Messias was founded in 1926 and has been trading port since 1934. The company was managed by Sr. Messiah Baptista from the beginning until 1973, when it was taken over by his sons and grandchildren.
The core of the blends comes from Quinta do Cachão. Not far from there is the company's other vineyard, Quinta do Rei. These quintas provide only a small fraction of the amount needed, so most of the wine must be purchased, usually in the form of grapes.
Like many other Portuguese houses, Messias has a long list of colheitas, starting in 1947. However, the house has a strange list of vintages. In the 1980s, 5 wines were declared vintages, including 1982, 1984 and 1989, but 1985 is missing. For example, the company also decided to declare 1967 and 1968, but not 1966.
The wines are generally quite light and soft, a style preferred in Belgium, France and the Netherlands, the company's main customers.
