Vintage Port 2017 De Portkelder

Na een nat 2016 begon het jaar met koude en droge winteromstandigheden, met een vijfde minder regenval dan het dertig jaarlijks gemiddelde. Bud Burst vond relatief vroeg in maart plaats. De droge omstandigheden gingen door tot in de lente en het warme weer in april en mei stimuleerde de snelle groei van de wijnstrokken.
De eerste drie weeken van juni waren extreem heet en veroorzaakten schade aan de nieuwe bossen in sommige delen van de Duoro.
Afgezien van enkele onweersbuien en regenval begin juli, bleven de omstandigheden droog tot eind september, hoewel de temperaturen voor een groot deel van het rijpseizoen gematigd waren. Zoals verwacht, rijpte het gewas zeer vroeg, met hoge suikerniveaus die leidden tot langere fermentaties en een zeer effectieve kleurextractie.
Het plukken begon de laatste week van augustus/eerste week van september. We moeten terug naar 1945 - een van de grootste van de 20-eeuwse jaargangen - toen het plukken ook zo vroeg begon.
Op de meeste Quinta's waren de temperaturen tijdens de oogst mild, met koele nachten, wat leidde tot evenwichtige gistingen en uitstekende extractie.
Een zeer belovend jaar waar over 40 jaar nog van genoten wordt.
